The Association of Finno-Ugric Literatures came together unofficially in 1989. Officially it was founded in 1993, the year in which the first Finno-Ugric writers’ congress also took place. The aim of the congress is to maintain and develop literary contacts between Finno-Ugric peoples, to exchange information, ideas and experiences about literature and society in general, and to support the linguistic and cultural survival of mainly smaller Finno-Ugric peoples.
